Rustic Chapel Wedding and Old Petrie Town Reception

Meet Megan and Wade, they had a rustic style wedding at Old Petrie Town and a ceremony at a hidden gem called Henzell's Chapel.

How did they meet

While working a casual shift after school at McDonald's, a nice pair of buns at the french fries station caught Wade's eye and he thought to himself - what better way to catch the attention of the owner of those buns then to fling a pickle at it. A short time later, a french fry came flying back at him and he knew from that moment "Ba da ba ba ba, I'm lovin' it!"

Megan first noticed Wade's big smile and beautiful blue eyes, while Wade was eyeing off Megan's butt!

The proposal

We were on the beach at Belle Mare, Mauritius - we were watching my family set off fireworks that we'd bought from the local store. Next to the danger of the fireworks, I saw two signs being shaken (like the dominos pizza employees) with 'will you' and 'marry me'. I initially thought my Brother was proposing to his girlfriend and then realised it was Wade proposing to me!

Planning your wedding at Henzell Chapel and Old Petrie Town

My dress was from LUV Bridal in Brisbane. My sister-in-law (Wade's sister) actually picked it. I wasn't too sure about all the bling at first but when I tried it on, it looked beautiful and it was so comfortable!

Our ceremony was at Henzell Chapel, Mt. Pleasant. It's such a beautiful, picturesque location in the Moreton Bay hinterland.

Our reception was held in The Pioneer Room at Old Petrie. We had looked at 11 venues before visiting and deciding upon the Pioneer Room. We live in Petrie and so we never thought we would end up having our Wedding reception there. We love the old country music barn feel it had to it and the timber floors meant that our guests could dance anywhere.

Was there any unique or funny moments that stood out in your mind about the day?

The celebrant making a joke during the ring exchange that the hand moisturiser (Wade was supposed to put on his ring finger earlier that morning) was 'for later...'

Any advice for future couples?

Megan: take 15 minutes out of your day to walk away from everything and everyone to just enjoy each other's company for a moment before the big entrance into reception.

Wade: have an open mind and let the day be what it is.

Anything else you would like to add about your day?

We planned our Wedding in 5 months and couldn't be happier with how perfect our day was. From Wade walking down the aisle with his Mum, Megan dancing with her Dad, to our first dance as Husband and Wife and then later being surrounded by everybody for our final song 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen, these are the memories we'll never forget.
